The Best Genealogy
What exactly is it that contributes to the best genealogy? Is it the organization, complexity, or person completing the research? It is actually a combination of many things.
Organization is a major key to compiling the best genealogy work you can. Without a good organization plan for your research it merely becomes a pile of records, papers, and pictures. When organizing your research you have to realize that your information is going to prove to be most interesting and valuable to those who have no knowledge of how you compiled it. You must be consistent in your organization and make it clear to others how you have organized your work. For example, if you have your work in binders you can put a table of contents and organization explanation at the beginning of each binder. This organization can be extremely simple if you are consistent with it. If your genealogy is well organized then it can be considered the best genealogy for you and more importantly, for others.
While organization is important you cannot allow it to limit the information you include about your ancestors. Include a section of miscellaneous information in your organization for each person or surname. Even if there are many names that you don’t have any extra information for you can leave those sections blank. It will be more than worth it in order to have those extra sections for those that you do find information on.
It is nearly impossible to compile the best genealogy without access to the best resources. We all have internet access and may know of local genealogy centers to visit in order to gather information and records, but this is often not enough. With limited resources you may find it difficult to get information on your British ancestry or Spanish genealogy. This is where professional genealogists come into play. In addition to their extensive training they have access to the worlds best genealogy resources and know how to use them. When you come across roadblocks in your research it is often a good idea to consult a professional genealogist who can help you to continue to create the best genealogy you can.
