Small Redesign, Big Impact - Iron Balusters for an Update or Whole New Design Direction in Your Home
Perhaps you’ve been watching HGTV and have gotten the itch to start working on things in your home but aren’t exactly sure where to start. Well, not every redesign project needs to involve a huge structural remodel. Launching into a full home redesign is not always an option – but there are ways that you can change your home’s look and feel without taking on a project too big to imagine. Sometimes a combination of one smaller structural change and some cosmetic design elements can make a world of difference. An example of this would be to retrofit your staircase or balcony with new elements, such as iron balusters and then work out from there for a new design style.
In houses where the staircase or balustrade is open and visible, this can be one way that you can update and even completely change the look and feel of your home easily and affordably. Many people don’t realize that they can retrofit the balusters in their current staircase or balustrade, but in most cases you definitely can. Whether you have wooden or iron balusters currently, retrofitting with new iron balusters may give you all the change that you are looking for. You can even add a whole different style flavor with iron balusters – there are many possibilities available – gothic, contemporary, ornate scrollwork and they are just as lovely and detailed as custom work.
People don’t realize that by changing something along these lines that the impact can be quite dramatic. In fact, it’s often the type of change that goes overlooked. They are used to seeing their stairs as they always have been and short of a major remodel, in the location where they always will be – so they aren’t even considered when you’re looking for a project to tackle. But these are exactly the type of smaller structural elements, similar to changing countertops and cabinets in a kitchen that can make a big shift in your home -- but in most cases at a dramatically more affordable price than tackling your kitchen! And the impact is going to amaze you, especially if you take the look and feel in a different direction from your home’s current design style. For example, if your home has had a country look and feel with carved wooden balusters, imagine the impact that retrofitting with iron balusters with a gothic influence could have. If your current furniture can work with a dramatic style change like that, or if simple slipcovers will make it work, then you can even punch it up a bit more with some minor cosmetic elements like wall color, window coverings and various accessories, and your redesign project could far exceed your expectations for a much smaller budget than you had ever imagined. All just from focusing on something as obvious, but neglected, as your staircase and adding iron balusters as the main design element.
And if the outside of your home is where you are looking at making improvements, you can use iron balusters outside as well to bring a unique updated look to the front of your home and bring curb appeal to a new level.
It’s great that the popularity of all the home redesign shows and networks such as HGTV are bringing people’s pride in their homes to an all time high. People are jumping into do-it-yourself projects or are working along with their contractors to be more involved than they have in the past. There are so many little areas, such as staircases and iron balusters, where a little creativity and vision can go a long way and influence the rest of the home design. Take a look around your home today and see if there’s something you’d like to change. It may not be your staircase or iron balusters where you’ll jump in to the world of redesign, but it just may.
