Artificial Christmas Garland Make A Festive Christmas Decoration

The early settlers brought the custom of Christmas garlands to America from Europe. After the fall harvest evergreens were gathered by day and ropes of garland were twisted together around the fireplace. People began using boxwood, hemlock, holly, mountain laurel and myrtle to highlight these garlands. By the 1900s the natural Christmas foliage and evergreens were becoming less abundant, giving way to artificial Christmas garland.

Garland is a great decoration, because it will generally stay where you put it. They can be attached to the top of your tree and looped down vertically. Ribbon is a great material to use for garland and it comes in wide and narrow widths, patterned and plain styles. You can also use beaded garland, cut up into shorter lengths and draped like tinsel over the branches. An inexpensive country look garland can be made from strands of raffia.

You can also use garland to decorate your front banister. Complete the look by taping Christmas ornaments such as satin-wrapped spheres or shiny plastic apples on the bottom side of the handrail.
