Russian Educational System
The best part of the Soviet educational system was that it was free. If you qualified intellectually, you could get almost any amount of education that you needed or wanted at no cost to you.
The literacy rate of Russians is among the highest in the world. Over ninety eight percent of the population can read and write. The trouble is that there are not enough jobs for all the people who are trained in that line of work.
My wife has a college degree in engineering. Specifically, her training was in chemistry and food processing. When she graduated from college, she got a job in a food processing plant making thirty-five dollars per month.
She worked at this job for several years. But it was a struggle to get by on the meager salary. She got another job as an executive secretary in a private firm at five times the income.
Getting a good paying job in your chosen field is tough.
If you see a woman who states that she has a college degree in engineering and she is working as a shop assistant, there is probably one of two possible reasons for this.
One is that she could not get a job in her chosen field of study. And the other reason is that she could make a much higher income working in private industry or some other position than in her field of study.
I met another woman who studied to be a nurse, but ended up selling leather jackets in a retail outlet because it paid so much more.
My wife speaks five languages in addition to her engineering degree. Having a university or college degree is common, and Russia has the highest educational level in the world.
Yes, it is true. All of those women that you see on the websites are highly educated.
