Broadway Show Ticket - The Lion King
The musical, The Lion King, has completed nine years on Broadway. This visual treat is based on Disney’s animated feature film. This Broadway adaptation of Disney’s film is the first choice in family entertainment. It has collected rave reviews since it first opened on Broadway’s New Amsterdam Theater in Oct 1997. Nearly nine years later, on June 13, 2006, the production moved to the Minksoff Theater, to make way for Mary Poppins, another musical from the stables of Disney. The Broadway show ticket for The Lion King is available from the box office.
The Lion King – The Story
This award winning Disney musical is the story of Simba – the young lion prince. His uncle, Scar, plots to kill both, the King and his son Simba. Simba survives, but flees the kingdom in the mistaken belief that he was responsible for the death of his father – King Mufasa.
Disney brought its classic 1994 film to life by creating a powerful musical, never seen before on Broadway, or anywhere else, for that matter. The cast of over 40 actors, the rich mythology, primitive African rhythms, high drama, strutting giraffes, swooping birds, leaping gazelles, all combine to make The Lion King what it is - a production unlike any!
The Broadway version of the Lion King, directed by Julie Taymor, has had every single of its performance totally sold out since it opened on Broadway, with nearly all weekends fully booked till the middle of next year.
Nominated for 11 Tony Awards in 1997, it won 6 of them, including for: Best Musical, Best Scenic Design of a Musical, and Best Choreography. The musical features five songs from the original film as composed by Elton John and Tim Rice, with additional African and South African music. This production of Disney that does not show any trace of human existence on stage won more than 25 awards in 1998.
The Theater And The Tickets
Refurbishing the Minksoff Theater took 200 craftsmen and artisans six months before The Lion King could open. The theater with its Proscenium stage and a capacity for 1597, is on the third floor of the Viacom office building.
The tickets can be purchased from its box office, with cash, Visa card, American Express card, or the MasterCard. Tele-purchase of tickets can be done by calling the theater direct. The Minksoff Theater is run by the Nederlander Group, and group booking can be done by faxing, emailing, or calling Nederlander Group Sales.
The Minksoff Theater does not run ticket lottery system, and there is no Standing Room Only (SRO) Broadway show ticket for The Lion King. The box office provides Student Rush tickets two hours prior to the performance. These tickets are limited to 2 per person, and are for the front row of the theatre. They are sold on a first come, first serve basis.
The price of the tickets range from .25 for the Rear Mezzanine to 1.25 for the Orchestra section. You can also source your Broadway show ticket for The Lion King from licensed ticket brokers.
