A sensation since he first appeared 94 years ago, Tarzan brought children in droves to Richard Rodgers Theater, thanks to Disney’s adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ creation. Tarzan – The Story

Tarzan is the story of an infant, who with his parents, shipwrecked off the African coast, was washed ashore, and whose parents were killed by a panther. The infant, who grew up to be known as Tarzan, was adopted by a gorilla, who brought him up as her own son.

The first human he meets is Jane, the daughter of Professor Porter – an Englishman - who is on an expedition to Africa. Tarzan and Jane eventually fall in love and have to decide whether to live together or to part ways, as one of them has to leave their home.

The Broadway production is presented by Disney Theatrical Productions and previews started at Richard Rodgers Theater on March 24, 2006 and opened on May 10, 2006. What is great about Tarzan, the musical, are the stage pyrotechnics – which are great even by Broadway standards, choreography by Meryl Tankard – specially the simian dances and the leaps by the leopards, and the great aerial view by Pichon Baldinu.

The Shows And The Tickets

As was expected, the all shows were sold out, and the theater full of kids. It is estimated that around 33 percent of the kids were less than 12 years of age.
