The A's haven't been playing the best of ball of late evidenced by Their 4-6 mark their L/10 overall. Danny Haren has been a big disappointment in my opinion this year after a decent effort a season ago. He's 1-2 with a 4.77 ERA his L/3 starts, and has been rocked in domes this year giving up 36 hits in 25 innings of work with a bloated ERA of 8.28 and WHIP of 1.64. Look for the Twins bats to get to him early and often as they turn the heat up on the Tigers and Sox early this afternoon to win their respective games. Hard not to back the Twinkies at home in this spot even if its Francisco Liriano's first stint off the DL. I know he'll be on a pitch count and I know the A's are looking to avoid the sweep, but the MOJO in the Twinkie Dome is electric right now and I see no reason to jump ship. The Twins 7-5 victory last night marks their fifth straight vs. a division leader, and they've been playing better ball than anyone in the entire league for the last three months now. Francisco Liriano was simply unhittable before he injured his forearm, and I'm looking for at least 5-6 solid innings of work from him this afternoon.

ST. LOUIS +120 (MARQUIS) VS. HOUSTON (OSWALT) 2:10 ET
Last night's 9th inning collapse by the Astros really put a dent in their post-season plans, and now they get the pleasure of taking on the red birds this afternoon looking to avoid the series sweep. Not gonna happen folks!!! Ted Barrett's one of the biggest homer umps in the league, and he'll be crouching comfortably behind the dish today. Roy "O" has been on top of his game his L/3 starts going 2-0 with a 2.49 ERA and only 12 hits allowed in 21 innings of work, but he won't even be enough to help the Astros salvage one game in this series. The Cards are in the midst of getting very healthy at home,a and they only hold a 4.5 game lead in the division. That's a little bit too close for comfort, and they've got the benefit of playing 10 of their L/17 regular season games in the comfy confines of Busch. Don't expect them to let any home opportunity slip through their fingers. Expect Tony Larussa to have his full compliment of starters in today's afternoon affair since they're off on Thursday, and host the Giants for three this weekend. Marquis has shown glimpses of greatness at Busch this season, and he's handled the Astros relatively well in his career.

SAN FRANCISCO -130 (LOWRY) VS. COLORADO (JENNINGS) 10:15 ET
The Rox will send one of their best starting pitchers to the bump tonight in Jason Jennings, but the Giants will counter with Noah Lowry whose been simply sensational in 7 of his L/10 starts. He had a fluke outing his last time out vs. Chicago, but had only given up a total of 8 earned runs in his previous 5 starts. He lost the pitcher's duel he had vs. Jennings in early August, and I like for him to exact revenge this evening. The Giants are still in the thick of both races, and this is a game they must have. Lay the short price with the home squad as they take the second in this three game series. With both San Diego and Florida both losing last night, the Giants jumped to only a game back in the NL Wild Card race after defeating the Rox last night. The Giants have been playing some real solid ball of late, and seem to be turning it on at exactly the right time. They most recently took 2 of 3 from the Padres at home before lat night's win, and have won 8 of their L/10 overall. Colorado is a pee wee squad at best right now that just doesn't have the roster to play much of a spoiler's role in the West.
